Light and Power

Estes Park's Light and Power Division has been providing the area with quality electrical service since 1945. Today the utility serves about 10,500 customers. Its coverage area encompasses 424 square miles - south on Highway 7 through Meeker Park, Allenspark, Ferncliff, and Pine Valley to mile marker 18.75; Country Road 43 through Glen Haven and the Retreat to mile marker 11; east on Highway 34 to mile marker 72; and, east on Highway 36 to mile marker 7. The area is bordered on the west by Rocky Mountain National Park.

Estes Park is one of four community owners of Platte River Power Authority, joining Longmont, Loveland and Fort Collins in this endeavor.  Platte River Power Authority, a non-profit entity, purchases or generates all of the energy needed to power these communities.  Approximately 20% of the energy portfolio is comprised of hydropower, 100% renewable energy generation, from the Colorado Big Thompson project installed more than 60 years ago.
