Mark was born in Topeka, Kansas and educated in public schools through high school.  He graduated from Washburn University, Topeka, Kansas, with Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor degrees.  Mark's career history in the banking/brokerage arena was in developing and managing trust departments and companies in Kansas, Wisconsin and Missouri.  Mark retired in 2007 from national $4B A.G. Edwards Trust Company in St. Louis. 

Mark and his wife Rebecca (Becky), retired VP A.G. Edwards & Sons, vacationed in Estes Park for many years, even going back to early childhood trips to Rocky Mountain National Park.  They purchased their homesite in Estes Park in 2004.  Mark and Becky moved to Estes Park permanently in July of 2008, and moved into their locally designed and constructed home in October of 2008.

Mark has two adult children -- Carson Elrod (of New York City) and Bree Elrod Novak (of Boston). Both are professionally trained and educated actors.
