FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:        Date: 01/05/2014            Time: 7:00 am

On January 05, 2014, at 7:00 am, the Colorado State Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash on Colorado Highway 160 at mile marker 275, approximately 17 miles east of Fort Garland on La Veta Pass, in Costilla County.

The ensuing investigation revealed that a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup—driven by Jeffrey Harless, 41, Pueblo—was eastbound on Colorado Highway 160.  The vehicle drove into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a 2013 Freightliner semi-tractor, driven by Brian Griego, 40, Pagosa Springs.  Both vehicles came to rest on their wheels in the westbound lane.

Harless was pronounced dead at the scene by Costilla County Coroner Sherry Vigil. Griego was not injured in the crash.

Drug usage may have contributed to the crash.  Speed is not believed to have been a contributing factor.  All occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation.
