FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:                      Date:               12/18/13                Time:  4:00 P.M.

The Colorado State Patrol and Northglenn Police Department partnered in a joint auto theft investigation last night in the north metro area that resulted in the arrest of thirty-one year old Matthew Richard Van-Velkinburgh.  The suspect is being held on a nation-wide no bond warrant and will be charged today with:

· False imprisonment

· Possession of a weapon by a previous offender

· Aggravated motor vehicle theft

The suspect was followed in a stolen car to a hotel located near 120th Avenue and Grant Street where he entered a room with two other parties.  When police officers attempted to contact Van-Velkinburgh he barricaded himself in the hotel room and the other occupants of the room were not allowed to leave.

Members of the North Metro Tactical Team were eventually able to coax suspect Van-Velkinburgh out of the hotel room where he was placed into custody.  Other occupants of the hotel room were not harmed and were questioned before being released.  The North Metro Tactical Team is comprised of officers from Northglenn PD, Thornton PD and Adams County Deputies.

This arrest makes the second in the past five weeks by members of the Colorado State Patrol during a joint auto theft operation in the north metro area.  It is a great example of Law Enforcement Agencies sharing information and resources to combat a crime which is impacting neighborhoods every day.
