Labor Day weekend results in numerous citations, arrest for Colorado State Patrol

The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) wrapped up the summer-long 100 Days of Heat campaign this Labor Day weekend to eliminate drunk driving and lower crashes across the state. From the afternoon of August 31 until the early morning of September 4, State Patrol Troopers maintained high-visibility saturation patrols and participated in DUI checkpoints to find and stop drivers who made the poor choice to drink and drive.

During the holiday weekend time frame, Troopers made 104 total arrests. Included among those arrested were 73 DUI or DUID drivers. Troopers also issued 136 seatbelt citations.

Despite strong media coverage and state-wide advertising of the increased police presence, two fatal crashes resulting in two fatalities occurred over the long weekend. Alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor in one crash; lack of use of a seatbelt is suspected in the other.

Even with the end to this year’s 100 Days of Heat campaign the Colorado State Patrol would like to remind all drivers in Colorado to drive sober, use a seatbelt and always drive safely and courteously.
