Trooper Harris grew up in South Carolina, where he graduated from High School and joined the Army. He experienced law enforcement for the first time as a Military Police officer in the Army. It was then that he knew law enforcement was his calling. Trooper Harris spent nine years in the Army as a M. P. before joining the Colorado State Patrol.

Trooper Harris’ first duty station with the patrol was in Castle Rock, which he describes as a great experience. He transferred out of Castle Rock and went to Colorado Springs where he chose to make his home. Over the years he has been involved in many aspects of the Patrol. Trooper Harris is a Field Training Officer, Public Information Officer and Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT) Instructor. He receives the most joy from being a Child Passenger Safety Technician Instructor. He believes this is where he can make the biggest difference in a person’s life; by teaching parents the basics of keeping their children safe in their vehicle.

Trooper Harris is currently assigned to the Selection Team as a Recruiter/Background Investigator. He is one of the original recruiters for the Colorado State Patrol. Being a recruiter has been one of his toughest challenges and most rewarding. Trooper Maurice Harris enjoys sharing his experiences with others who are looking to join the Colorado State Patrol.
