Based on the latest information available to the Governor’s Office. This report is not comprehensive because new Recovery Act awards are announced frequently. This does not include funds - including income tax cuts, increased COBRA benefits, increased funds to cover Medicaid services and others - that cannot be broken down by county. The numbers below represent funds that have been awarded and are expected to be received over the life of the Recovery Act. The funds are distributed to a wide range of groups in the county and do not necessarily touch county government.

 


 

COMMUNITY SERVICES / SAFETY NET:

Community Services Block grant to Routt County for poverty reduction and revitalization of low-income communities. Routt County Department of Human Services and South Routt High School will collaborate on a project that will engage rural students, investing in an education that offers students a future of self-sufficiency and a way out of generational poverty.

Extra 13 percent in food stamp benefits to about 500 people in Routt County between April 1- October 31, 2009.

Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) grant to Advocates Against Battering and Abuse to allow for a new position, Latino/Immigrant Outreach Coordinator, to initiate the Latino/Immigrant Outreach Project to Routt County, Colorado. The project will provide services to adult female victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and dating violence.

Grant to the City of Steamboat Springs to hire a police officer for three years through the Community Oriented Policing Services program.

Recovery Act Assistance to Rural Law Enforcement to Combat Crime & Drugs Competitive grant to Routt County to build a new communications system. The grant includes funds for a project manager, a technical support person, and computers for all police vehicles.

 



 

WORKFORCE SERVICES AND UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS:

Workforce Investment Act Funds for job training in the Northwest County Region, which includes Moffat, Jackson, Routt, Rio Blanco, and Grand counties.

Extra 20 weeks of benefits, through the Emergency Unemployment Compensation program, for 552 people (as of June 30, 2010) in Routt County.

ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENT:

Estimated funds to be spent for free energy efficiency upgrades in low-income homes in Routt County

Energy Efficiency Conservation Block grant to Yampa Valley Partners for energy efficiency upgrades to buildings in Moffat, Rio Blanco and Routt counties.

Colorado State Forest Service and Colorado Youth Corps Association used ARRA funds to create 12 16-week jobs for young adults and retain 6 2-year jobs. The 271-acre project involves landscape-level forest restoration, and beetle-kill and fire mitigation work on forestlands in El Paso, Gilpin, Jefferson, Park, Jackson, Routt, Eagle and Dolores counties.

Colorado State Forest Service awarded the City of Steamboat Springs funds to implement a variety of forest fuels mitigation treatments in order to substantially reduce hazardous forest fuels in high risk wild land-urban interface areas on private and municipally owned lands in the Steamboat Springs area.
