Gov. Hickenlooper and Lt. Gov. Garcia announce Colorado Literacy Week schedule

DENVER — Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012 — the following events are part of Colorado Literacy Week Feb. 27 – March 2:

Monday, Feb. 27, 2012
9:30 a.m. – Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia will deliver remarks at the kick-off of Colorado Literacy Week. The Lt. Gov. will announce new partners in the Colorado Early Literacy Initiative. Location: Crawford Elementary, 1600 Florence St., Aurora.

Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012
9 a.m. – Lt. Gov. Garcia will deliver remarks and announce One Book 4 Colorado during a town hall with U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and Commissioner of Education Robert Hammond. Location: Denver School of Science and Technology, Green Valley Ranch Campus, 4800 Telluride St., Building 3, Denver.

11:40 a.m. – Lt. Gov. Garcia will join the Colorado Department of Education to announce the State Library’s Summer Reading Programs and unveil new READ posters. Location: Mesa County Central Library, 530 Grand Ave., Grand Junction.

12:15 p.m. – Lt. Gov. Garcia will deliver remarks at the Colorado Library Consortium Spring Workshop. Location: Mesa County Central Library, 530 Grand Ave., Grand Junction.

2:15 p.m. – Lt. Gov. Garcia will visit the Grand Valley Center for Family Learning. Location: 100 East Second St., Parachute.

Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012
Noon – Gov. John Hickenlooper and Lt. Gov. Garcia will present Colorado Reads: The Early Literacy Initiative and Mile High United Way will announce Social Innovation Fund award recipients. Location: State Capitol, West Foyer, Denver.

Thursday, March 1, 2012 

8:00 a.m. – Colorado Statewide Parent Coalition. Location: First Lutheran Church, 803 3rd Avenue, Longmont.

11:00 a.m. – Reading Plus Program. Location: Deer Trail Elementary, 350 2nd Avenue, Deer Trail.

2:00 p.m. – Save the Children. Location: Alamosa Elementary School, 1707 W. 10th Street, Alamosa.

Friday, March 2, 2012
9:30 a.m. – Lt. Gov. Garcia will read to children and participate in the Colorado Education Association’s Read Across America Day. Location: Weikel Elementary School, 6565 Lindstrom St., Fort Carson.

2 p.m. – Gov. Hickenlooper will read to children and participate in the Colorado Education Association’s Read Across America Day. Location: Avon Elementary School, 850 W. Beaver Creek Blvd., Avon.
