GOV. RITTER ANNOUNCES 200-JOB EXPANSION BY AEROSPACE COMPANY
Gov. Bill Ritter announced today that Sierra Nevada Corp. has decided to create an additional 200 jobs, expand operations at its Centennial location and increase its capital investment in Colorado, utilizing new legislation passed by the General Assembly and signed into law by the governor earlier this year.
The Nevada-based company is a privately held, woman-owned firm specializing in the engineering and development of high-tech electronics, communications systems and space technology. The company also has operations in Englewood, Littleton and Louisville.
“While the nation’s economy continues to struggle, Colorado is leading the way toward a strong and sustainable recovery because of our focus on innovation, manufacturing and future-oriented industries like aerospace,” Gov. Ritter said. “Government can’t fix the economy on its own, but we’re doing all we can to help, and new laws like House Bill 1001 are a big part of that. Sierra Nevada Corp.’s decision to create 200 new jobs reflects the long-term confidence and optimism that defines the Colorado spirit. I congratulate and thank the company for this welcome news.”
Colorado has the second-highest concentration of aerospace workers in the country. Sierra Nevada Corp.’s expansion highlights the business-friendly environment in Colorado, ranked by both Forbes and CNBC as a top state in which to do business. The company is utilizing HB 1001, the Job Growth Incentive Fund, to help support its growth.
The new law, sponsored by Rep. Joe Rice and Sen. Rollie Heath, provides a credit on payroll taxes for new jobs created. In just a few short months, the law already has attracted hundreds of new jobs and several new companies to Colorado, including RePower USA Corp. and the Fortune 500 firm DaVita Inc.
Gov. Ritter thanked local partners involved in the Sierra Nevada Corp. expansion, including the Metro Denver Economic Development Corp. and the South Metro Chamber of Commerce.
