GOV. RITTER HELPS 'FLIP SWITCH' ON NEW WIND RESEARCH PROJECT

Gov. Bill Ritter today helped "flip the switch" on Siemens Energy's new 2.3-megawatt wind turbine at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's National Wind Technology Center outside of Boulder. The turbine is the centerpiece of a new multi-year research project to study the performance and aerodynamics of a new class of large turbines. The research project is part of the biggest public-private partnership for wind generation in the U.S.

German-based Siemens has based its American research facility in Boulder.

"Siemens joins an inspiring list of visionary companies that are becoming part of Colorado's New Energy Economy," Gov. Ritter said. "Together, with public and private partners like these, we're making our state a clean-energy research beacon and building a new energy future for Colorado and America. We're creating a model strategy for every state in the country to follow, a model that's creating jobs, diversifying our energy portfolio and addressing climate change."
