GOV. RITTER PRAISES DANIEL YOHANNES NOMINATION TO ANTI-POVERTY AGENCY
Gov. Bill Ritter today congratulated Daniel Yohannes on being nominated by President Obama to serve as CEO of the Millennium Challenge Corp., which works with some of the poorest countries in the world to reduce poverty by promoting sustainable economic growth.
"Daniel came to America as a teenager with $150 to his name and a desire to make a difference," Gov. Ritter said. "Over the years, he has become one of Colorado's most successful business leaders. He has also become a close friend, and I know his skills, expertise and dedication will serve him well in his new fight against global poverty.
"I encourage the Senate to confirm the nomination as quickly as possible."
Yohannes, a native of Ethiopia, is a member of Gov. Ritter's Jobs Cabinet and was co-chair of the Governor's transition committee. He is president and CEO of M&R Investments, which focuses on the clean-energy sector. He formerly was CEO of U.S. Bank. He has served on numerous community boards, including National Jewish Health, Project C.U.R.E. and the Denver Art Museum.
