Gov. Hickenlooper announces Boards & Commissions appointments

DENVER — Wednesday, July 2, 2014 — Gov. John Hickenlooper today announced several Boards and Commissions appointments. The appointments were to the Board of Trustees for the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind, the Colorado Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, the Colorado Lottery Commission, and the Sickle-Cell Anemia Advisory Board.

 

The Board of Trustees for the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind advises and consults with the Commissioner of Education regarding the management of the school and the education of its students.

  • Walter VonFeldt of Monument, a Republican. Appointed for a term expiring July 1, 2018;

  • Nancy Inez Brown of Colorado Springs, a Republican, Appointed for a term expiring July 1, 2018;

  • Michelle Ann Butler of Colorado Springs, a Republican. Appointed for a term expiring July 1, 2018.

 

The Colorado Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing shall serve as a liaison between the deaf and hard of hearing community and the general assembly, Governor, and Colorado departments and agencies.  The Commission shall also assess the needs of the deaf and hard of hearing community and recommend to the general assembly any legislation that may facilitate and streamline the provision of general governmental services to the deaf and hard of hearing community.

  • Mary Pat Graham-Kelly of Lakewood, to serve as a member who is deaf. Reappointed for a term expiring July 1, 2018;   

  • Kirk B. Neuroth of Denver, to serve as a member who is an interpreter for the deaf and hard of hearing. Reappointed for a term expiring July 1, 2018;

  • Lucas Michael Marquardt of Denver, to serve as a member who is hard of hearing. Appointed for a term expiring July 1, 2018.  

 

The Colorado Lottery Commission governs the operation of the lottery and conducts hearings on granting or suspending licenses for lottery sales.

  • Michael Dwaine Weatherwax of Boulder, a Democrat and certified public accountant who has practiced accountancy in Colorado for at least five years. Appointed for a term expiring July 1, 2018;

  • Jim Bensberg of Colorado Springs, to serve as a public member and as a Republican. Appointed for a term expiring July 1, 2018.

 

The Sickle-Cell Anemia Advisory Board uses the existing staff and facilities of the University of Colorado School of Medicine to establish programs and conduct research for the care and treatment of persons suffering from sickle-cell anemia.  The Board shall be composed of eleven members representing hospitals, voluntary agencies interested in sickle-cell anemia, medical specialists in sickle-cell anemia patient care, and the general public.

  • Michael D. Dawson of Aurora, to serve as a member from the general public. Appointed for a term expiring January 31, 2018.
