Gov. Hickenlooper orders flags lowered for Pfc. Jacob H. Wykstra

DENVER — Friday, June 6, 2014 — Gov. John Hickenlooper today ordered flags be lowered to half-staff statewide on all public buildings on Monday, June 9, in honor of Army Pfc. Jacob H. Wykstra of Thornton. Flags should be lowered from sunrise to sunset.

Wykstra, 21, died on May 28 in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. According to initial reports, Wykstra died of injuries sustained when his helicopter crashed. The incident remains under investigation.


Wykstra was assigned to A Company, 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson.

A funeral for family and friends is scheduled for Monday in Northglenn.
