Gov. Hickenlooper orders flags lowered for Capt. David Lyon

DENVER — Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 — Gov. John Hickenlooper today ordered flags be lowered to half-staff statewide on all public buildings on Wednesday, Jan. 8, in honor of Capt. David Lyon of Sandpoint, Idaho. Flags should be lowered from sunrise to sunset.


Lyon was killed Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, in Kabul, Afghanistan, working with the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan performing a Combat Advisory mission with Afghan National Army Commandos. He died of injuries sustained when a vehicle-born improvised explosive device was detonated near his convoy. Lyon was assigned to the 21st Logistics Readiness Squadron, Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado Springs.


A funeral will take place at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8, at the New Life Church, 11025 Voyager Parkway, Colorado Springs.
