Gov. Hickenlooper appoints district court judge for Adams, Broomfield counties

DENVER — Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013 — Gov. John Hickenlooper announced the appointment of Emily Anderson as a district court judge in the 17th Judicial District (Adams and Broomfield counties). Anderson will fill a vacancy due to the retirement of the Hon. C. Vincent Phelps.


Emily Anderson currently serves as a Magistrate for the 17th Judicial District, a position she has held since 2005. In this position, she presides over civil, domestic relations, juvenile and criminal matters. Previously, Anderson was a part-time Magistrate for the Denver County Court, president of her own law firm with a focus on family law, civil litigation and mediation, and a senior associate at Bell & Pollock, P.C.


Anderson earned a bachelor’s degree from Colorado College and a J.D. from the Sturm College of Law at the University of Denver.


The appointment is effective Jan. 31, 2014.




About the judicial selection process

Each of Colorado’s 22 judicial districts has a judicial district nominating commission. The nominating commission selects three nominees for the district and county judicial vacancies of which the final appointment is selected.
