Gov. Hickenlooper announces several Board and Commission appointments

DENVER — Thursday, May 10, 2012 — Gov. John Hickenlooper announced several Board and Commission appointments today. The appointments were to the Sickle-Cell Anemia Board and the Colorado Health Services Corps Advisory Council.

 

The Sickle-Cell Anemia Board uses the existing staff and facilities of the University of Colorado School of Medicine to establish programs and conduct research for the care and treatment of persons suffering from sickle-cell anemia. The members appointed for terms expiring Jan. 31, 2016, are:

• Wanda Gail Foster of Colorado Springs, to serve as a representative of voluntary agencies interested in sickle-cell anemia.
• Olga Polanco Copeland of Colorado Springs, to serve as a representative of the general public.

 

The Colorado Health Services Corps Advisory Council. Senate Bill 07-232 established a loan repayment program that uses state and federal funds and contributions from local communities and private sources to help repay the outstanding education loans that many physicians and other health professionals hold. In exchange for repayment of these loans, the physicians and other health professionals will commit to provide health care services in local communities with underserved health care needs throughout the state. The members appointed for terms expiring Nov. 20, 2013 are:

• Ross A. Brooks of Denver, to serve as a representative of a membership organization representing federally-qualified health centers in Colorado.
• Dr. Jay H. Lee of Denver, to serve as a person with expertise in providing health care in rural and other medically underserved areas of the state.
• Fabian Valle of Denver, to serve as a representative of a nonprofit statewide membership organization that provides programs and services to enhance rural health care in Colorado.
• Dr. Andrea Lynn Nederveld of Grand Junction, to serve as a person with expertise in providing health care in rural and other medically underserved areas of the state.
• Jean Ann Larsen of La Junta, to serve as a representative of behavioral health organizations that operate in Colorado
 

The members appointed for terms expiring Nov. 20, 2014 are:

• Dr. Mark E. Deutchman of Denver, to serve as a person with expertise in providing health care in health professional shortage areas of the state, and a representative from a public institution of higher education in the state that provides health care professional education programs.
• Dan E. Long of Sterling, to serve as a representative of an economic development organization that operates in Colorado.
• Janet Sue Beezley of Boulder, an advanced practice nurse licensed to practice in Colorado.
• Marcia Ann Gilbert of Evergreen, to serve as a person with expertise in providing health care in rural and other medically underserved areas of the state.
• Dr. Katya Mauritson of Denver, a representative of a state loan forgiveness program for oral health professionals in Colorado.
