DENVER — Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011 — Gov. John Hickenlooper will announce his appointment to the Colorado Supreme Court at 9 a.m. today in the West Foyer of the state Capitol.
The Supreme Court Nominating Commission selected three candidates for a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Alex J. Martinez. The nominees interviewed by the governor and his senior staff were Brian D. Boatright of Arvada, Frederick T. Martinez of Castle Pines and Patrick T. O’Rourke of Highlands Ranch.
In the weeks leading up to receiving the nominees earlier this month, Hickenlooper met with each sitting Supreme Court Justice to discuss qualifications to look for in a new justice. Hickenlooper also met with representatives of some of Colorado’s specialty bar associations, public officials and other individuals who shared their perspectives on the Colorado Supreme Court.
Additionally, the Governor’s Office of Legal Counsel met with interested stakeholders and received numerous calls and comments about the three nominees from the public, many private lawyers and lawyers who are members of legal groups large and small.
