DENVER — Friday, Oct. 14, 2011 — Gov. John Hickenlooper today ordered flags be lowered to half-staff on all public buildings statewide on Sunday, Oct. 16, in observance of the 30th Annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service. Flags should be lowered from sunrise to sunset.
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Fire Administration will honor 72 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2010. Seventeen firefighters who died in previous years will also be honored.
Fire departments across the country will conduct simultaneous services, lower flags to half-staff and observe a moment of silent tribute.
