Gov. Hickenlooper to present Governor's award for excellence in exporting to CO companies tomorrow at World Trade Day

Governor John Hickenlooper will present the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Exporting to this year’s winners tomorrow, May 17, at the World Trade Day 2011 event luncheon. This award has been given every May since 1970 and honors Colorado companies that demonstrate a commitment to international trade. World Trade Day 2011 is being held at the Cable Center, 2000 Buchtel Boulevard, Denver. The following Colorado companies were selected for this year’s award:

Small-Sized Manufacturer: StoneAge Inc is recognized as a world leader in providing tools and equipment for water blast cleaning. StoneAge was established in Durango, Colorado in 1979 when two young men, working in a dusty old garage, turned an idea into a viable tool. Today, all of StoneAge’s operations are still run in Durango, and the company exports to 43 different foreign countries – Brazil, Poland, Thailand, South Africa and UAE, to name a few.

Large-Sized Manufacturer: Abound Solar is a solar panel manufacturing company headquartered in Loveland, Colorado. Abound started manufacturing in 2009, producing less than one MW but massively increased production to 31 MW in 2010. By the end of 2014, Abound will be producing 840 MW of modules and have the largest solar manufacturing facility in the U.S. Abound’s international sales now comprise 90% of their total annual sales.

Small-Sized Service Provider: Magnolia Trading is an exclusive international distributor of premium American food brands. Magnolia was formed in May 2006 in Boulder, Colorado by Mr. and Mrs. David Jones. Magnolia now represents 14 separate premium brands and has developed an extensive network of highly professional and effective distributors in over 50 countries around the world.
Large-Sized Service Provider: RNL, established in Denver in 1956, provides architectural, interior design, landscape architecture, planning and urban design services to domestic and international markets. From 2000 to 2010, RNL mastered planned communities worldwide for over 1.8 million people. RNL has designed significant projects in global markets such as China, Egypt, New Zealand and UAE.

World Trade Day – Denver’s premier full-day conference on international trade and business opportunities themed, “Focus on Europe,” – will present Europe in a realistic, yet positive light. In addition to connecting participants to each other, the event will showcase the powerful World Trade Center network, directly connecting businesses of the Rocky Mountain region to businesses in key markets in Europe. The recent currency fluctuations of the Euro and economic challenges in the region have caused skepticism and concern for Europe as an opportune market. Therefore, a sub-theme on international finance will reflect an honest snapshot, while informing participants of opportunities to hedge currencies, mitigate risk and secure funding options.
