Wednesday, May 4, 2011 -- Gov. John Hickenlooper today ordered flags be lowered to half-staff on all public buildings statewide on Thursday, May 5, 2011 in honor of Maj. Philip Ambard, who was killed in Afghanistan last month.
Ambard, 44, was killed on April 27 at Kabul International Airport in Afghanistan, along with seven other U.S. military personnel and an American civilian contractor. He was assigned to the 460th Space Communications Squadron at Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora and worked as an assistant professor at the Air Force Academy.
He is survived by his wife, Linda of Colorado Springs, and five children. A memorial service is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the Air Force Academy Chapel.
