DENVER — Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011 — Gov. John Hickenlooper announced today Dwayne Romero will be Executive Director of the Office of Economic Development and International Trade.
Romero is now President of Related Snowmass in Snowmass Village, an operating division of Related Cos., the international real estate development and investment firm headquartered in New York. He has nearly two decades of experience in real estate development and investment.
“Dwayne Romero knows how to create jobs and lead organizations,” Hickenlooper said. “He helped stabilize and build successful businesses in the Colorado mountains, most recently in Snowmass Village. Dwayne has the necessary leadership training and business management experiences to promote economic development in Colorado and beyond its borders.”
Romero manages a significant portfolio of commercial and lodging properties in Snowmass Village, including the Mountain Chalet, the Snowmass Inn, the Snowmass Mall and the Snowmass Center. In addition, he leads the firm’s hospitality and property management divisions – Snowmass Hospitality and Snowmass Property Management – in the management and oversight of more than 250 condominiums and a dozen homeowner associations in Snowmass Village. All of these roles require active, communicative, hands-on leadership and a strong focus on detail and execution.

Romero worked earlier as Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Steeplechase Development Partners LLC, a resort development and development management company that led and managed several notable mixed-use projects in Aspen, including Obermeyer Place and The Residences at Little Nell.
Previously, Romero worked as development manager and director of operations for Hines in the Rocky Mountain region, leading and managing several resort and mixed-use projects in both Colorado and Montana.
Romero lives in Aspen and is an elected official on the Aspen City Council, having won his seat in a decisive victory in 2007. He and his wife, Margaret, have three young girls.
A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Dwayne served in the U.S. Army for seven years, both stateside as a Planning & Operations Officer for the Corps of Engineers, and in a leadership role in combat in the Persian Gulf War. His efforts earned him a Bronze Star Medal for leadership valor.
Romero graduated from several U.S. Army leadership schools, including U.S. Army Ranger School as a distinguished honor graduate. Dwayne earned a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard Business School.
Romero is active in several local community and charitable organizations. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Aspen Fire Protection District, and is a Past President of the Aspen Historical Society. Additionally, he is a former Board Director and current member of the Aspen Rotary Club, and is a Past President of Roaring Fork Leadership, a non-profit leadership training and development organization. Dwayne is the recipient of the 2005 Roaring Fork Leadership Alumni Leadership Award.
