Creating Individual Performance Objectives for Safety

 

Supervisors can help ensure a safe workplace by adding safety performance objectives to an employee's performance plan.  Supervisors should:

 

• Set meaningful, attainable expectations aligned with the safety goals of the department
• Be clear about employee expectation, and explain any measurement used
• Work with the employee to create performance objectives and ask for their ideas, input and feedback regularly. Remember, you can adjust performance objectives as needed.

 

To help create meaningful and clear objectives for your employees, we have provided two tools for supervisors to use below.

• The SMART model 
• Safety Performance Objectives

 

Remember, SMART goals are Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic and Time-oriented.
