File a Complaint

The Healthcare Professions Profile Program is very unique. The process for complaints regarding incomplete or inaccurate profiles is similar to the way a licensing board or program would process complaints. The main difference is if there is any violation found of the reporting requirement, an administrative fine may be issued, but the fine is not reportable as discipline to national data banks and associations. The Director is required to refer any information regarding the imposition of an administrative fine to the respective board or program.

If the board or program feels there has also been a violation of their specific statute, they may open a case and move forward with an investigation. The fact that an administrative fine is imposed does not immediately determine that there is a violation of the board or programs practice act.

When information is received by the Healthcare Professions Profile Program stating that an individual does not have accurate information in their online profile, our office starts by investigating the claim. A letter of inquiry will be sent to the licensee, registrant or certificate holder asking them if the information is accurate. The licensee, registrant or certificate holder has 30 days to respond to the Director and update their online profile. The Director has the authority to impose a fine of up to $5000.

Our office relies heavily on others to let us know when an individual is not in compliance with the Michael Skolnik Medical Transparency Act. Other offices within the division will let us know if they see issues, other licensees and of course the consumers. We believe the information to be accurate, but can make no guarantees. The information is provided by applicants and licensees and is not verified by our office.

Practitioners who have an inactive or lapsed license, registration or certification are not required to complete a profile until they apply for reactivation or reinstatement.
