Office of Massage Therapy Registration

Lisa Hill, Interim Program Director

Consumer Protection is our Mission.

The Office of Massage Therapy Registration (Division Director) regulates individual massage therapists. The Division Director does not regulate massage parlors or locations where massage therapy is practiced. The Division Director is authorized to take disciplinary actions against those who violate the Massage Therapy Practice Act, Rules and Regulations. Office activities include issuing registrations to massage therapists, investigating complaints about massage therapists, and enforcing disciplinary actions taken by the Division Director.

News Items

Notice to Applicants:

We have recently been notified by the Colorado Bureau of Investigations (CBI) that they are experiencing a significant backlog in requests for fingerprints and background checks.  This backlog is hampering their ability to process requests in what would normally be considered a "timely manner."  CBI is working diligently to address the issues and will be implementing a new system this spring that will speed up the process.

We encourage applicants to apply for their background check as soon as possible once they intend to apply for licensure.  The applicant should submit their application soon after their background check becomes available from CBI - keeping in mind the information from CBI is only good for a 90 day period.
DORA is in communication with CBI and will work to process applications as quickly as possible once we have all the necessary information.

We Changed Our Name!

The Division is now called the Division of Professions and Occupations, effective August 8, 2012. To help our consumers and licensees more readily locate and utilize our services, the legislature passed House Bill 12-1055 during the 2012 legislative session. Please note, the Division of Professions and Occupations will still be housed within the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA). Services the Division currently offers will remain the same.

2012 Legislation

Legislation passed during the Legislative Session impacts the Division of Professions and Occupations. The Division is developing an implementation process at this time. Please check back in the near future to learn about any changes to rules, requirements and important deadlines.
