All licensed MLOs are required to complete ten hours of continuing education annually. Such continuing education must be completed within each calendar year and prior to any license renewal or reinstatement.
Of the ten hours of continuing education, eight hours are administered through the NMLS and consist of the following: three (3) hours of courses on Federal laws and regulations; two (2) hours of ethics courses; two (2) hours of courses related to nontraditional mortgage products; and one (1) hour of elective coursework.

In addition to the eight hours of continuing education administered by NMLS, all licensed mortgage loan originators must complete the Two (2) Hour Colorado Annual Update Course that is administered by the Colorado Division of Real Estate (DRE). This course provides important updates specific to the state of Colorado including licensing requirements, rules, and non-compliant trends resulting in disciplinary action. The Board encourages all licensees to take this course early in the calendar year to receive the updated information as soon as possible.
Licensees must take this course from a Division of Private Occupational Schools (DPOS) approved provider or from a DPOS exempt provider, both of which must be approved by the Division of Real Estate.

After completing an update course, a licensee will receive a course completion certificate which must be maintained and produced to the Division in the event of a Continuing Education (CE) Audit.

New licensees who successfully complete the 20 hours of pre-licensing education approved by the NMLS in the same calendar year in which their license was issued, are exempt from all Colorado specific continuing education requirements for that year.
