Tiers I, II, III and Administrative Grants

Tier I
 

These grant funds can be used for a variety of public purposes including planning, engineering and design studies, and capital projects requiring a limited level of financial assistance.

 

  • Grant awards up to $200,000.
  • Applications for grant consideration will be expected to include a minimum match of 25%. Larger matching amounts are generally more competitive.
  • Applications will be reviewed and recommended for funding by Department of Local Affairs staff. The Executive Director will make funding decisions three times per year.
     

 


Tier II
 

This grant program is intended to support a wide variety of community development projects to improve quality of life in communities.

 

  • Grant awards greater than $200,000 up to $2,000,000.
  • Applications for grant consideration will be expected to include a minimum match of 25%. Larger matching amounts are generally more competitive.
  • Applications for this program will be reviewed by the Advisory Committee, and the Executive Director will make funding decisions three times per year.
     

 


Tier III

This grant program is to help political subdivisions with regional or multi-jurisdictional projects intended to mitigate major impacts associated with energy/mineral industries (dependent upon revenue availability).

 

  • One cycle per year.
  • Multi-million dollar, multi-year projects ($2 million up to $10 million in size).
  • Expect regional/multi-jurisdictional focus.

 


Administrative Grants 

 

Administrative Grants are available for planning, preliminary engineering and architectural design projects. The Application process requires the local government submit a detailed letter to your DOLA Regional Manager, signed by your Chief Elected Official. The letter should include the project description, budget, financial need, why the project is necessary, urgency of the project, how soon the project can begin and how soon it can be completed.  

  • Maximum award $25,000
  • Total project costs not to exceed $100,000
  • Dollar-for-Dollar match required
 
 

Administrative Grants - Flood Related Disaster Recovery

The Department of Local Affairs is revising the Administrative Grant program to address certain immediate needs of flood-impacted communities.   These Administrative Grants can be used for community planning, comprehensive planning, as well as preliminary engineering and architectural design for projects directly related to 2013 Flood Disaster Recovery efforts.  The Application process requires the local government submit a detailed letter to your DOLA Regional Manager, signed by your Chief Elected Official. The letter should include the project description, budget, financial need, why the project is necessary, urgency of the project, how soon the project can begin and how soon it can be completed.

  • Maximum award $200,000
  • Flexible match requirements
  • Funds are only eligible for projects that have no other source of funding for completion in a timely fashion, such as FEMA and CDBG-DR.
