The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment today announced that Tri-Union Seafoods LLC has expanded its voluntary nationwide recall of Chicken of the Sea brand tuna to include 5-ounce cans of Chunk White Tuna in Oil. The recall was initiated because seams on the cans do not meet the company’s quality standards.
The UPC code (also known as the bar code) for the new product being recalled is 0 48000 00195 5. The “Best By” date printed on the bottom of the can is 01/15/17. The product was sold nationwide at retail outlets in single cans between Jan. 23, 2013, and March 6, 2013. The product lot codes that are part of this expanded recall can be found on the bottom of the can and include the following:

Consumers who may have purchased the recalled tuna are urged to check any cans they have in their cupboards. Consumers who find they have purchased the recalled products should dispose of them by discarding in the garbage or returning them to the place of purchase.
Although Tri-Union Seafoods reports there have been no illnesses to date, it is issuing this voluntary recall to ensure safety and quality. Cans that do not meet seam standards could result in product contamination, which could lead to illness if consumed.
Consumers with questions or looking for additional information concerning this recall can contact Tri-Union’s 24-hour Recall Information Line at 1-800-597-5898.
