Schmalz’s European Provisions recalls “Applegate Organics Chicken and Apple Sausage” due to possible plastic fragments
DENVER – The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment today announced a voluntary recall by Schmalz's European Provisions of Springfield, N.J. of its “Applegate Organics Chicken and Apple Sausage” because it may contain small pieces of plastic. The only product subject to the recall was produced on Jan. 24, 2013 and available in 12-ounce vacuum packages of sausage identified with a “Use or Freeze by 03/17/13” on each package. The recalled product also bears the establishment number “P-5411” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
Schmalz’s initiated the recall following three consumer complaints. The company stated there been no reports of injury due to the plastic pieces. Anyone concerned about an injury from consumption of these products should contact their healthcare provider.
The sausages were distributed to and sold in retail stores nationwide including Colorado.
The recall does not affect any other products produced by Schmalz’s or any of the same product currently offered for sale in retail stores but may affect sausages that consumers purchased and may have stored in their freezers.
Consumers with questions about the recall should contact Schmalz's European Provisions: Gina Asoudegan, public affairs specialist; or Gerry Clarkson, consumer affairs specialist at 800-587-5858.
