What can YOU do to conserve energy?

  • Set your computer and monitor go to “sleep” after 10 minutes of not being used. Ask your IT support staff for help if needed.
  • If you use task lighting or radios, turn them off when they are not needed.
  • Turn the lights off when leaving conference rooms and your office if you have a light switch.

  • Use a programmable thermostat.
  • Look for the Energy Star label on home appliances and products. These save a minimum of 15% more than the non-Energy Star equivalent.
  • Change out incandescent bulbs with Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL).
  • Insulate your home. Many older homes have little to no insulation in the walls, attic and crawl spaces. Rebates may be available from your energy provider.
  • Unplug un-used electronics & appliances.
  • Check your water heater: Set your water heater no higher than 120 degrees F.

Find out what else you can do to save energy and what incentives are available by using the Energy Action Planner on the Governor’s Energy Office website.
