Colorado Immunization Information System

CIIS Logo

Keeping track of shot records has never been easier! By participating in the Colorado Immunization Information System (CIIS), healthcare professionals, parents and individuals can rest assured that their immunization records are safe and complete.

CIIS is a confidential, population-based, computerized system that collects and disseminates consolidated immunization information for Coloradans of all ages.

Operated by the Colorado Immunization Section at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, CIIS enables any immunization provider in Colorado to electronically track immunizations a person has received, thereby maintaining an ongoing and complete record to ensure that the person receives all recommended shots in a timely manner.

An immunization information system is an important tool to increase and sustain high immunization coverage rates by consolidating immunization records from multiple providers, allowing providers to generate recall notices for individuals who are not up-to-date, minimizing over-immunization, and identifying missed opportunities for immunization. CIIS meets the guidelines for immunization information system functionality developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Although CIIS is exempt under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) as a public health authority, we strive to maintain the highest level of compliance with HIPAA regulations. Please visit our Confidentiality webpage for more information on CIIS and HIPAA.

CIIS is endorsed by the Colorado Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Colorado Academy of Family Physicians, the Colorado Children's Immunization Coalition, and the Colorado Adult Immunization Coalition as the statewide immunization registry in Colorado.

CIIS Tip of the Month - Have You Visited the CIIS Training Webpage?

By visiting the CIIS website  Training and Technical Assistance tab on the left side of the screen, you will find a wide range of training resources, including CIIS Online Training Modules, CIIS Training Resources and "How to" Cheat Sheets, and CIIS Live Training Webinars.

The CIIS Online Training Modules are self-paced, computer-based modules that can be accessed at www.co.train.org. These courses are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can re-take and refer to the online training materials as many times as you would like. There are four CIIS online courses available: CIIS General User Training, CIIS School User Training, CIIS Inventory Module and the CIIS Reminder/Recall Training.

The CIIS Training Resources and "How to" Cheat Sheets provide additional in-depth training as well as visual guides to which you can reference while learning the system. In this section of the CIIS Training website, you will find a collection of job aids that can be saved to your computer and/or printed. The site includes PowerPoint Guides with screen shots and step-by-step instructions for CIIS features and functions, short "Quick Start" guides, as well as tutorials on such topics as how to run an Immunization Rates report or identify duplicate patient records in CIIS.

The CIIS Live Training Webinars give learners an opportunity to interact with a CIIS trainer. The webinars are offered monthly, and the only tools necessary are a computer with Internet access and a telephone. Once you register for a webinar - which can be done through the CIIS website - you will receive an email with simple instructions on how to join the webinar and dial-in for the audio portion. The CIIS webinar schedule and registration details appear in the monthly CIIS First Friday newsletter and on the CIIS Application Homepage. Coming Soon: CIIS plans to offer on-demand training webinars. Stay tuned!
