Beginning in 2013, Denver Public Health (DPH) and Tri-County Health Department (TCHD) will proactively engage, encourage, serve as resources and provide acknowledgement for meeting this reporting requirement for eligible hospitals in Adams, Arapahoe, Denver, and Douglas counties seeking MU incentive funds. These syndromic surveillance data transmission efforts are supported by funds from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). With assistance from the Colorado Regional Health Information Organization (CORHIO), a syndromic surveillance system will routinely receive data from all participating hospitals. DPH and TCHD will have the capacity to monitor alerts and investigate for outbreaks. Hospitals may choose to transmit syndromic surveillance data through CORHIO (CORHIO members only) or directly to a secure website maintained by the Association of State and Territorial Health Officers (ASTHO). Hospitals outside these 4 counties are not required to submit syndromic surveillance data and should contact CDPHE for meaningful use acknowledgement or documentation of exclusion.
Declarations of Readiness:
Objective: Eligible Hospitals (EH) and Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs):
Capability to submit electronic syndromic surveillance data through CORHIO or directly to a secure website maintained by the Association of State and Territorial Health Officers, and actual submission.
Measure: Successful ongoing submission of electronic syndromic surveillance data from Certified EHR Technology through CORHIO or directly to a secure website maintained by the Association of State and Territorial Health Officers, for the entire reporting period.
Exclusions: Any EHs or CAHs that meets one or more of the following criteria may be excluded from this objective:
(1) Any EP.
(2) Any EH or CAHs without an emergency or urgent care department.
(3) Any EH or CAHs not located in Adams, Arapahoe, Denver, or Douglas counties.
