The Colorado State Veterans Home at Walsenburg is a 120-bed long-term care facility for our country's veterans, their spouses, widows and Gold-Star Parents. Our "Italian Village" theme mall is a central gathering place. We provide care to veterans from anywhere in the United States, you need not be a resident. Built in 1993 with the attached Spanish Peaks Hospital, the nursing home offers a bright, modern and comfortable atmosphere with views of the nearby mountains and State Park lakes. A (SCU) special care unit for Alzheimer’s and dementia residents is also available.
The outdoor setting is pleasant and comfortable. The mountain air is crisp and clean. Daytime high temperatures in summer reach the low 80s with high 60s in the fall and mid 50s in the winter. Our Elders enjoy special quiet rooms located on many wings of the building. Like living rooms, these are places to socialize, read or just relax. We foster compassion, dignity and camaraderie between our staff and residents within our “extended-family” setting, while promoting joy, emotional support and a sense of belonging. We offer “Health Care with a Loving Touch!”
