Nearly 300 people received training in mental health first aid this week during an event on Wednesday to commemorate Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day.
The CDHS Office of Behavioral Health co-hosted the program, along with Mental Health First Aid Colorado, Colorado Behavioral Healthcare Council, the Federation of Families for Children’s Mental Health, Children’s Hospital and South Metro Health Alliance.
The education program aims to empower individuals to identify, understand and respond to those in mental health and substance abuse crises. Based on skills taught in CPR training, participants learn to know the signs, learn the five action steps and become a lifeline to a youth experiencing a mental health crisis.
