School Readiness Quality Improvement Program

The School Readiness Quality Improvement Program (SRQIP), C.R.S. 26-6.5-106, is designed to improve the school readiness of children five years of age or younger who are cared for at child care programs that feed into public elementary schools that receive Title 1 funding, and are required to implement a priority improvement or turn around plan, or are subject to restructuring. The program awards $2.2 million of federal Child Care Development Funds annually to local Early Childhood Councils across the state.

The participating child care programs receive a Quality Rating and Quality Performance Profile from Qualistar Colorado, and assistance in improving the quality of care through the use of enhanced educational materials, specialized teacher training, coaching and mentoring services, and increased parental involvement. In addition, local School Readiness projects implement community specific strategies for increasing the quality of care at participating early care and education facilities.

The following fourteen Early Childhood Councils are participating in the program. For more information on a local project, e-mail the project coordinator listed below, or visit the Council's website.
