In helping individuals, families and communities to be safe and independent, the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS), Employment Affairs Division, Statewide Services manages the Background Investigation Unit (BIU). This unit provides an array of services to both CDHS and Coloradoans.

Criminal Background Check (CBC): 

This section works in conjunction with the Division of Child Care to conduct criminal background investigations for licensed childcare facilities throughout the state. This section serves as the primary contact for licensed facilities with questions regarding the background process. The CBC section is located in Pueblo at the Colorado Mental Health Institute (CMHIP).
