Program Information

Mount View Youth Services Center (MVYSC) is a secure, co-ed multi-purpose facility operated by the Colorado Department of Human Services, Division of Youth Corrections (DYC.) MVYSC is located in unincorporated Southeastern Jefferson County and provides detention services for the First and Fifth Judicial Districts and provides Diagnostic/Assessment services for sixteen Judicial Districts along the Colorado Front-Range. The sixteen Judicial Districts encompass 46 Counties: Gilpin, Jefferson, Denver, Clear Creek, Eagle, Lake, Summit, Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert, Lincoln, Jackson, Larimer, Boulder, Weld, Broomfield, Adams, Logan, Morgan, Sedgwick, Phillips, Washington, Yuma, Kit Carson, Cheyenne, Kiowa, Prowers, Baca, Bent, Otero, Crowley, Las Animas, Huerfano, Pueblo, El Paso, Teller, Park, Chafee, Fremont, Custer, Saguache, Mineral, Rio Grande, Alamosa, Conejos and Costilla County.

MVYSC is home to the Front-Range Assessment team. The Assessment team utilizes Evidenced Based Assessment tools including the Colorado Juvenile Risk Assessment (CJRA) during the Assessment process. The assessment results are utilized to develop recommendations to address risk factors that contributed to a youth’s criminal behaviors with the overall goal of reducing recidivism. Master level Clinicians provide individual and group counseling to all youth progressing through Assessment or who are waiting for a placement into a long term treatment program.

Educational Services are available to all youth in the Divisions care. Jefferson County Public Schools provides an on-site education program that serves the detention population. Teachers employed by the Division provide educational services to youth committed to the Colorado Department of Human Services, Divsion of Youth Corrections. Both school programs provide Special Education services to those who require them. Both Jefferson County and DYC offer Social Studies, Math, Language Arts, Science, Art, Transition and Recreation. Youth are able to work toward and obtain their GED or High School diploma and have the ability to be involved in vocational programs such as food service, house keeping and grounds keeping.

The Detention population receives clinical services from the Jefferson Center for Mental Health (JCMH). JCMH Clinicians provide individual and group counseling as well as 24-hour support in crisis situations.

All youth residing at Mount View are given the opportunity to receive weekly religious, medical, dental and Psychiatric services. Youth are also involved in Restorative Community Justice (RCJ) projects, which allow them to look at, and repair harm that was done to the community.

Mount View and its 22 acres allows youth many opportunities to get outside and participate in the ropes course, Frisbee golf, soccer, kickball, basketball, volleyball and gardening. Healthy pro-social activities such as these not only can help facilitate change during a youth’s stay at Mount View, they can provide a positive alternative to negative choices.

Research has shown that one of the most important and powerful influences in a young person’s life are that of a positive and caring adult. At Mount View Youth Services Center, we encourage the involvement of family and positive role models while a youth is in our care.
