Milestone Anniversary Celebrated at the Colorado State Fair

PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado State Fair has been entertaining rodeo fans for 51 years, and it is only getting better with age. The 51st PRCA Ram Rodeo runs Friday, August 26 thru Tuesday, August 30 in the Budweiser Rodeo Arena on the Colorado State Fairgrounds.

This year, the first night of rodeo will celebrate the Fair’s commitment to the rodeo tradition with a tribute to the animal athletes that help make the sport of rodeo the big buckin’, wild ride that it is.

Each year, the Fair’s PRCA Dodge Rodeo attracts top cowboys and cowgirls from across the country, including local Pueblo cowboy and multiple PRCA National Finals qualifier, Josh Peek, who is set to compete in the Saturday, August 27 performance.

For the first time in over twenty years, rodeo-goers will hear a new voice commentating the event. Boyd Polhamus of Brenham, Texas, three-time announcer of the year and fifteen-time National Finals Rodeo Announcer joins the Colorado State Fair line-up.

Eight-time PRCA Specialty Act of the Year, Keith Isley, also joins the show for the first time

this year with funny-man acts that combine a mix of trick roping, high impact-low impact aerobic workouts, various animal routines and trick riding.

Besides five nights of rodeo, each night will also have an individualized program to make all five rodeos a unique experience.

  • Friday, August 26:  The rodeo will be followed by Little Big Town.
  • Saturday, August 27:  The rodeo will be followed by The Band Perry and will include sponsor calf dressing.
  • Sunday, August 28:  After the rodeo, fans can enjoy the first American Freestyle Bullfights at the Colorado State Fair.  Plus, Sunday is Military Appreciation day. Active, honorably discharged, retired, and family members with proof of military affiliation can purchase a $5 ticket for this evening, a $7 savings.
  • Monday, August 29:  Monday is “Cowboys Kickin’ Cancer” night. Fans have the opportunity to support the St. Mary Corwin Cancer Patient Needs Fund by making a donation or bidding on a pair of custom-made Cowboys Kickin’ Cancer Chinks made by Betty Jo Griffin. The large array of colors in the chinks represents the various fights against different cancers. Rodeo-goers on this night are encouraged to wear the color representing the fight of their choice. For more information on what each color represents, visit the Cowboys Kickin’ Cancer page on www.coloradostatefair.com.
  • Tuesday, August 30:  Tickets to this rodeo are only $1.  This price does not include gate admission, which is also only a dollar.  This rodeo also features “Thunderwolves Night” with CSU-Pueblo; rodeo fans will entertained by the CSU dance team and cheer squad.

Not only does the rodeo feature the top cowboys and cowgirls, it also exhibits the best rodeo animal athletes in the business. Harry Vold, also known as “Duke of the Chutes,” is the official stock contractor of the Fair’s rodeo. The Harry Vold Rodeo Company, based in southern Colorado, produces rodeos in seven states annually. Harry also provides bucking stock for over 100 rodeo performances.  Vold is one of only two stock contractors to provide stock

to all 51 National Finals Rodeos and each year, provides stock to challenge the cowboys and entertain the crowds.

The Colorado State Fair runs from August 26 – September 5, 2011.  For more information, visit www.coloradostatefair.com.
