Cost Share
Organic Cost Share Funding No Longer Available
For the past five years the USDA has provided cost share funding through the Colorado Department of Agriculture to offset the application and inspection fees for organic certification in the state. The funding was part of the 2008 Farm Bill. With Congresses passage of the American Taxpayer Relief Act in early January of 2013, extension of these funds was not included because the program did not meet the threshold "no baseline" for automatic inclusion in a Farm Bill extension. Therefore cost-share funding for organic certification will not be provided in 2013.
Programs without federal fiscal year 2013 mandatory funding related to the organic sector include: organic cost-share, organic data collection, and the organic research and extension initiative (OREI). For any of these programs to exist in the future they will need to be included in the new five-year Farm Bill that Congress will begin working on this year and would take effect on October 1, 2013.
