The goal of the Pesticide Registration program is to ensure the protection of the public and the environment from unnecessarily hazardous or fraudulent pesticide products and devices through registration and inspection. The Program covers a broad range of products. The products include those that control insects, weeds, and plant diseases, swimming pool and spa treatments, common household cleaners, and other disinfectants.
Prior to registration, product labels are reviewed and efficacy and hazards are considered. This ensures that pesticide products are properly labeled, packaged, formulated, and fulfill label claims. Inspections are conducted to check for proper registration, storage and display, and to review sales records. Other important functions of the program include: review and issuance of registrations for special local needs; application for and enforcement of specific exemptions; and licensing restricted use pesticide dealers.
