The Department regulates sellers of Home Food Service Plans (HFSP) to provide the purchaser protection from unethical and fraudulent sales tactics. Sellers of HFSP are individuals or companies that sell frozen meat or meat products at a consumer's home.
Prior to doing business in Colorado, a HFSP must first obtain a license from the Department and acquire a surety bond. The program also performs routine inspections of licensed sellers to ensure that the documentation given to the consumer at the time of purchase is correct, accurate and not misleading. Sales brochures are also reviewed to prevent deceptive advertising.
Consumers who feel they have been subject to disingenuous sales practices, or did not get what they paid for can seek restitution through the Department whereby the Department can take action against a seller's bond.
The HFSP program also investigates consumer complaints.
