  • 6 - 23'; large clumping grass.
  • Blooms July to September.
  • 1 - 3' showy, purple-tinged plumes on reed-like stem.
  • Up to 100,000 seeds per plume.
  • Sheaths are densely hairy.
  • Leaves basal; 3 - 5'; sharply serrated.
