Brand Assessment

The State Board of Stock Inspection Commissioners has the authority to determine the assessment amount to be collected on each recorded brand every five years.

The assessment fee will be due on all Colorado brands on January 1, 2012. The 2012 assessment fee is $275.00 per brand and will pay the brand for a five year period, which is January 1, 2012 through December 31, 2016.

Assessment notices will be mailed to every brand owner in December after Christmas. There are currently over 34,400 brands on record in Colorado. Brand owners will have through June 30, 2012, to pay the assessment fee on their brand. Any brand not paid by June 30, 2012, will be considered delinquent and will be assessed late fees along with the 2012 assessment amount. The assessment fee must be RECEIVED INTO THE OFFICE on or prior to June 30, 2012, or a late fee will be assessed. Postmarks will not be accepted.

Any brand that the 2012 assessment fee (along with applicable late fees) is not paid as of June 30, 2015, will be cancelled. Any cancelled brand that is reinstated shall be charged the $100.00 late fee in addition to the previous assessment fees due at the time of reinstatement. All cancelled brands must first be researched to determine if the brand can be reinstated. A $50.00 reinstatement research fee will be due to being the process.

The late fee will be assessed according to the following schedule:

• The late fee for any brand assessment paid 6 months after the assessment is due shall be $25.00. (July 1, 2012, through December 31, 2012, the assessment fee of $275.00 plus the late fee of $25.00 for a total amount due of $300.00.)
• The late fee for any brand assessment paid one year after the assessment is due shall be $50.00. (January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2013, the assessment fee of $275.00 plus the late fee of $50.00 for a total amount of $325.00.)
• The late fee for any brand assessment paid two years after the assessment is due shall be $75.00. (January 1, 2014 through December 31, 2014, the assessment fee of $275.00 plus the late fee of $75.00 for a total amount of $350.00.)
• The late fee for any brand assessment paid three years after the assessment is due shall be $100.00. (January 1, 2015 through June 30, 2015, the assessment fee of $275.00 plus the late fee of $100.00 for a total amount of $375.00.)
