After a winter break, Bond Park construction resumes for completion by Memorial Day
After a winter construction hiatus, Bond Park construction is resuming on schedule to conclude by Memorial Day. The Town’s contractor has completed underground utility work and concrete seat walls along Elkhorn Avenue, as well as the concrete foundation and stone columns for the southwest entry pavilion. Extensive landscaping and completion of the sidewalk and the southwest entry pavilion are underway this spring. The park is scheduled to reopen in time for Memorial Day weekend events.
As construction resumes, pedestrians should watch for signage as sidewalk detours may be in place along Elkhorn Avenue, MacGregor Avenue and Riverside Drive. The sidewalk along Park Lane on the north side of Bond Park is open.
Current redevelopment in Bond Park includes some features outlined in phase five of the Bond Park Master Plan. In 2009, the Town initiated a public process to redesign Bond Park to make it a more user-friendly space for residents and visitors. The resulting Master Plan divides Bond Park’s redevelopment into six possible phases that the Town can consider and complete as funding becomes available. Construction began in 2011 with significant infrastructure improvements and the reconstruction of the 100-block of MacGregor Avenue and Park Lane to accommodate special event tents, as outlined in phases one and three of the Master Plan. Once the 2012/2013 phase is complete, the Town will facilitate another public process to determine which additional elements of the Bond Park Master Plan will be implemented as part of the phased redevelopment.
