FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Date: 5/23/12 Time: 1145
Motorcycle season is not a vacation from safety
With warmer weather inevitably comes more motorcycles on the roads in Colorado. While mountains and other areas
of the state offer amazing views and scenic rides, it is important for everyone to realize motorcycles are everywhere and
to take the proper precautions. This goes for both car and truck drivers, as well as motorcycle riders.
Drivers inside vehicles can take simple but lifesaving precautions while driving. Looking a second time before changing
lanes, slowing down around motorcycles and not following too closely –all important in normal driving- can literally be a
matter of life and death with motorcycles.
Motorcycle riders are also responsible for their own safety. An endorsement is required for operating a motorcycle,
meaning that rider has experience and knows how to use the bike. Like other vehicles, simple steps can make all the
difference. Slow down, take your time, know the area and weather before leaving, and do not attempt risky
maneuvers. As always, never driver or ride under the influence of anything.
While motorcycles are a different way to see the state, they are still vehicles and subject to the same laws as any other
vehicle. The Colorado State Patrol would like to remind everyone to be extra cautious regarding motorcycles and for
riders to enjoy the ride, safely.
