The Colorado State Patrol Motor Carrier Safety Section is charged with ensuring the safe operation of all commercial vehicles and operators within the state. This section provides vital enforcement of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) as adopted by the State of Colorado. Many are unaware that a commercial vehicle is any vehicle used for commerce with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of over 10,000 pounds. This means that any vehicle OR COMBINATION of vehicles (i.e., truck and trailer) with the ability to haul, carry or tow over 10,000 pounds must comply with the regulations as outlined in the FMCSR.
