Taxpayers: Respond ASAP to November letters
Posted: November 26, 2010
"Notice of Deficiency" and “Statement of Account” mailings to taxpayers staggered over week
The Department of Revenue mailed a large number of "Notice of Deficiency" and “Statement of Account” letters to individual and business taxpayers from November 22 through November 26. These letters have the date November 19, 2010 on the letter. Due to equipment and resource limitations, some taxpayers will receive these letters on Monday, November 29 – 10 days after the date on the notice/statement. Because the letter directs taxpayers to respond or make payment within 10 days of the date of the letter, the department understands that some taxpayers will not have enough time to respond to the mailing.
We ask that taxpayers respond or make their tax payment as soon as possible after they receive the notice. The department will make accommodations for the mailing delay when processing any payment or protest associated with these notices.
