Tax Offices Closed Oct. 9 -- Furlough Day

Posted: September 24, 2009
Earlier this year, state lawmakers and the governor cut spending and took steps to address a $1 billion shortfall in revenue. Part of the plan involves mandatory unpaid furlough days for most state employees through the end of 2009. Friday, October 9 is a mandatory furlough day. Monday, October 12 is Columbus Day, a state holiday.

Please note that walk-in and telephone assistance for state taxpayers will not be available on these dates. If you have time-sensitive business with the Colorado Department of Revenue, please plan ahead. Furlough days are not considered state holidays. Tax due dates will remain the same.

  • Tax payment plan due dates of October 9 are still valid. Payments may be mailed in, postmarked on or before the due date
  • Cigarette tax monthly returns are still due, Tuesday, October 13.
  • Wage withholding "frequent filer" accounts are still expected to make their Electronic FundsTransfer (EFT) payments on or before Thursday, October 15.
  • At our walk-in service centers, submit applications for sales or wage withholding tax accounts early the week of October 5, prior to the scheduled furlough day and the Columbus Day holiday, for earlier processing.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
