Tax Offices Closed Sept. 8 -- Furlough Day

Earlier this year, state lawmakers and the governor cut spending and took steps to address a $1 billion shortfall in revenue. Part of the plan involves mandatory unpaid furlough days for most state employees. Monday, September 7 is Labor Day, a state holiday. And Tuesday, September 8 is a mandatory furlough day.

Please note that walk-in and telephone assistance for state taxpayers will not be available on these dates. If you have time-sensitive business with the Colorado Department of Revenue, please plan ahead. Furlough days are not considered state holidays. Tax due dates will remain the same.

  • Tax payment plan due dates of September 8 are still valid. Payments may be mailed in, postmarked on or before the due date.
  • Wage withholding "frequent filer" accounts are still expected to make their Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) payments on or before Thursday, September 10.
  • At our walk-in service centers, submit applications for sales or wage withholding tax accounts early the week of August 31st, prior to the Labor Day holiday and the scheduled furlough day, for earlier processing.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
