Colorado Property Tax/Rent/Heat Rebate

Many Coloradans may be eligible for the Property Tax/Rent/Heat Credit rebate, also known as the "PTC" rebate, which is available every year. It has been available to Colorado residents since 1979. If you are a full-year Colorado resident, 65 years of age or older, or a surviving spouse 58 years of age or older, OR disabled, regardless of age -- you may qualify for the PTC rebate.The actual rebate total is based on the applicant’s income and expenses. Any Colorado resident who meets the requirements for the rebate should submit the rebate application, Form 104 PTC.  

 

Qualified applicants could receive up to $792:

  • Up to $600 for rent or property tax paid.
  • Up to $192 for heating expenses.

Applicants have two years to submit the application. For example, the rebate for calendar year 2012 may be submitted on or before December 31, 2014.

Lawful Presence Information

Persons who are 18 years of age or older and are applying for a public benefit such as PTC must prove lawful presence in the United States.

 

Applying for the PTC Rebate

  • Free Assistance statewide through Denver Asset Building Coalition for low-income persons with completing the PTC application and Colorado income tax forms.
  • Free Assistance statewide through the Piton Foundation for persons who earned less than $42,000.  Dial 211 (it's a free call) to find a free tax preparation site near you, or use the search tool.
  • Complete the application and bring it to a Colorado Department of Revenue Taxpayer Service Center.
