All Colorado licensed motor vehicles powered by liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or natural gas (NG) are required by law to pay an annual fee to obtain an LPG/NG decal from the Colorado Department of Revenue. Colorado law requires any Colorado licensed vehicle to have and display a decal to fuel the vehicle. It is against the law for any fuel supplier to fuel a Colorado licensed vehicle without a decal displayed.
Decal fees are based on the weight of the vehicle.
Fees are prorated the first year, according to the purchase date on the vehicle registration. Specific details are in Publication FYI Excise 6, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) or Natural Gas (NG) Decals .
Decals can be purchased from either the Department of Revenue or from a decal vendor. You must complete an Application for Liquefied Petroleum Gas or Natural Gas Decal (DR 1585) providing all requested information and send it to the Colorado Department of Revenue with the applicable fee. The application will be processed and a decal mailed to the applicant. An account will be established for the applicant and renewals mailed to the decal users each year. Decals can also be purchased from "Decal Vendors," licensed fuel distributors who have established a Vendor Account with the Colorado Department of Revenue. You can receive your decals immediately from these vendors, however, an account will not be established to receive an annual renewal from the Department of Revenue. See Decal Vendor List below.
Decal Vendor List
These vendors are licensed distributors and may sell LPG/NG decals to their customers. The same requirements apply to anyone purchasing a decal from these vendors. You should have a completed Application for Liquefied Petroleum Gas or Natural Gas Decal (DR 1585) or renewal form Renewal Application For Liquefied Petroleum Gas Or Natural Gas Decal (DR 1689) . The appropriate fee would be paid to the vendor to receive your decal. Vendors are alphabetically by city.
